PICCELL WIRELESS, Be Careful

Postby lisap » Thu, 07 Dec 2006 09:09:24 -0500

I was in Italy for a month and came across PicCell who rents phones to students abroad out of Seattle. It is all based on line and seemed like a pretty good deal at the time. However... My online account never worked so I couldn't check it while in Italy. Sure enough I came home to charges that I didn't agree to pay for and have been dealing with PicCell ever since. I used the phone for barely two weeks and it has been a huge headache with an equally huge bill filled with charges that once I sent the phone back- I couldn't verify. If you bump into PicCell my advice is be careful! :(

Lisa,

Thanks for the input on them - apart from the charges, how did the phone work for you? Its often a dilema for some people whether they rent a phone or buy a prepaid sim card for that country so would be good to get some feedback from you on that

Thanks

picell is a scam

Postby Piccell Sucks » Mon, 09 Apr 2007 07:54:59 -0500

BEWARE OF PICCELL WIRELESS. They will lie, cheat, steal, and bill you forever. This company is a total scam, rip-off artist who counts on students just accepting whatever they say.....do NOT deal with these jokers.

Why?

Postby StudentGuru » Mon, 09 Apr 2007 12:59:24 -0500

Hi - thanks for the frank warning - but can you explain why you think this? What led to this?

Thanks

Sure....They continue to bill your credit card long after you stop using the service....then you are left fighting with the credit card company to resolve...They actually billed me $30. because I disputed a charge! Anyway, i am advising all schools about these people, and am considering a class-action lawsuit. :x

i had pretty good experience with piccell. i studied in firenze through lorenzo dei medici. i thought the customer service people were great- when i was in napoli on my way to capri and my phone got stolen  . but they were able to block the phoneline and replace the phone when i got back to firenze. i chose the insurance coverage and the replacement was pretty cheap. piccell also helped me with a second sim card for the 3 weeks i spent in spain after my program ended in italy. i have no idea how much i would have been charged for roaming if i didn't do that. i did get a bill or two after i got back to the states but they showed me exactly what the calls were and it all added up. overall good service and i would use them again. :D

My friend also had Piccell for just a month, he didn't like it and cut the service short. I didn't ask for details because I'm not interested so thats all I can say about the subject.

What is Picell Wireless anyways?

I don't understand how the company was able to "screwed you with 1.5k USD"

Can you please elaborate a little bit?

Wow!

I just hope you can file a charge back with your credit card and get your money back.

Postby Piccell stinks » Thu, 01 Nov 2007 08:06:50 -0500

My daughter used Piccell this summer in Italy. She was there for about 1 and 1/2 months. The university recommend Piccell. Her fellow students used mostly Piccell. Pic is very elusive on their website in disclosing their actual charges. But I did find them and give a copy to my daughter before she left. Still the charges for a month for a rented sim card and calls were about $350 (probably about $1 per minute). She did make about 10 calls to the states but did not talk real long. Her promised USA number to connect to her phone NEVER DID WORK, forcing us to receive international charges on our phone.

I paid the bill in full and sent the phone back after she got back. Then she got another bill, I reviewed the charges and paid that also. TODAY, some 5 months later I got a bill in the mail with a threatening letter. The bill did not come to my email address as I have since changed providers about 1 month ago. They did not bill my credit card as the card has since expired. The total bill with the nasty letter was for US$1.17. Tomorrow I am going to call them and ask for a detailed billing so that I can reconcile the $1.17. Then after they have spent some time and money I will send them the $1.17 in pennies, sent by registered mail. They are the worst company to deal with. Avoid them at all costs. Have your SIM card phone unlocked and buy a prepaid SIM card once you get to the country of your visit (sold in most tobacco shops). It may seem more expensive but trust me it is not.

PICCELL RIPOFF

Postby SAM645 » Mon, 26 Nov 2007 05:16:10 -0500

I, TOO, AM FIGHTING PICCELL FOR ONE MONTH'S WORTH OF CALLS IN pARIS, THE bill came to $1800! they say they can do nothing except offer a payment plan, and to look at their service agreement- fluency on lawyerspeak is a help. :( i will warn the college administration about them. also the "virtual" U.S. number was frequently down, causing p's to dial the european number. HUGE COST!!!! ALL AROUND.
