I am an international student and I dont have medical insurance. I was wondering if you know where can I get insurance. As any international student I am always broke so I do not have much money to pay for it. Thank you in advance for your help.

 Post subject: Health Insurance???
PostPosted: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 04:12:05 +0000
I use Study USA Health Care and pay $505 for the entire year as a 27 year old student in Florida University. Study USA Health care seem to be the cheapest around so far as I have looked around a bit. Just google the name and you will find it! Make sure that they cover the minimum requirements that your school mandates. Other wise, happy hunting!!!

$505 for an entire year doesn't seem to expensive to me since in student life money is everything. What you might also want to - recommended by a friend who had been to Germany - add is an insurance against theft. They stole his laptop on campus and he didn't have that sort of insurance at that time. I don't know what I would do if my laptop got stolen.

Hi!
I'm taking my second semester of studying at University of Pennsylvania. Does anyone know of an insurance that would be sufficient for their requirements? 2 primary things: they want mental health and pre-existing condition coverage. Otherwise I'd have to pay 1667$!

Please, any hints are welcome!

Many international students playing sports may realize that their student policy excludes coverage for athletic activities. Whether playing football or basketball, you will want to know the type of coverage that is specifically included in your plan.

International student insurance is now mandatory in many of the countries that also open up their doors to students from other countries. Many are of the understanding that the state provides cover for the children while they are in colleges and schools and pick up the responsibility to provide health insurance for their children too. Actually, this does not happen. Parents as well as students should have a clear understanding of what international student health insurance is and how to deal with its implications.

Why Is Insurance A Must

There are a growing number of students who leave their own country and go to other countries for higher education. But without health insurance it becomes a difficult task for students to stay abroad. There are many health insurance for international students plans provided by different insurance companies all over the world. Many families are not able to afford private medical health insurance due to insufficient income. Those families who find that medical expenses are too high they can pay at least a small percentage of their gross annual income or may be nothing at all towards Medicaid, depending upon the mandates in place in the country of domicile. Different minimum standards are laid down which need to be met by every state. There are physical examinations and emergency services, immunization services, and many other considerations which vary from one state to another.

Hi ibelle,

Yes, but it will depend on his employers insurance plan and their policy. If they cover spouses, you should be able to go on that plan.

Hope that helps

There are many plans with various maximum coverage limits for medical expenses (ranging from $25K to $1,000K) and deductibles (ranging from > $0 to $2500) been available online. You can compare various insurance policies, download policy brochures, obtain online quotes and also purchase policies. But be careful to read all insurance quotes carefully to make sure they have appropriate coverage for your needs.

This is something that anyone who wishes to stay in Canada as an international student must prepare for. Most educational institutions require all students coming from other countries to secure themselves by purchasing an insurance policy. This will ensure foreign international students who will study in Canada the coverage and protection from emergency hospital bills and medical expenses if ever they get sick or are accidentally injured during their stay and study in the college or university they are enrolled in.
